HAMIS is a web application used by hospitals in the BC Health Care System to send their financial data to the Ministry of Health for accounting purposes.
Originally designed in the early 2000's it had aged poorly, and was difficult to navigate.
We worked with a team at the Ministry of Health in the redesign. Our goal was to improve the look and feel, increase usability, and rewrite the application code. The database remained unchanged.
1
We started off by getting to know the client and creating a high level map of the existing application. This stage involved some cleanup and we ended up with a leaner site structure.
2
File Upload is the most important section in the application. Our agile process allowed us to improve this section of the application over multiple iterations.
“David used his knowledge and expertise to provide us with great advice, insights, and suggestions. This was a major redesign and David delivered on all fronts, it was great working with him.”

Design sessions started at a whiteboard with the client. We love presenting ideas directly, getting immediate feedback, and iterating. The best solutions come out of collaboration.
4
The BC Government Design System was applied in the redesign. This resulted in the new application aligning with the latest branding guidelines put out by the BC Government.
“David’s commitment to usability permeates his design work.”
